PSA: DON’T TEXT AND SKATE

First off, don’t text and skate. The skater is in his own insular world until he is rudely awakened by a stop sign, so I broke the sound design into two sections. Before he hits the sign, all of the sounds are abstract—the sloshing of a water bottle, the swelling of a violin tremolo. Practical sound effects come in only after he hits the pole—the sound of a pole and a cracked cell-phone. When we’re on our phones— whether in a car, skating, or biking, we move through the world muffled and disconnected. This loop is a tiny reminder to feel your weight, speed, and space.
